The programme will help China improve its contribution to global health and achieve the potential of its collaboration. | Site Investigation on Malaria Control in Tanzania |
To revise the malaria control pilot program in Tanzania and to further understand the local malaria epidemic status, National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention visited Tanzania from 27 September to 1 October 2014. Participants of the investigation include those from World Health Organization Africa Regional Office, Tanzania Ifakara Health Institute, the Tanzania National Malaria Control Program, Duke Global Health Institute and partners from pilot areas. From 29 September 2014 to 4 October 2014, GHSP Output 1 core institution, Research on Health Systems Strengthening, sent several representatives to attend the Third Global Symposium on Health Systems Research in Cape Town, South Africa. Through this symposium, the project team understood the latest research outcomes in the field of global health system strengthening, studied the most cutting-edge research methods, and improved their capacity in health system research, all of which would be supportive for improving research method and enhancing research quality of GHSP Output 1 project. Peking University and Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases Conducted the Evaluation on Malaria Control Training Programme |
From July to August, 2014, Peking University School of Public Health and Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases jointly conducted the fieldwork of an evaluation research on malaria control training programmes. This activity is a part of the evaluation study on China"s health development aid to Africa for malaria undertaken by Peking University School of Public Health. The study aims to document China"s health aid to Africa on malaria prevention and control, analyse the logicality and replicability of the activities, evaluate the impact of the control programmes, and summarise the lessons learnt, so as to provide policy recommendations for the future health aid programmes. Providing Consultations on "Health Asia-Pacific 2020" Strategy |

Entrusted by the Department Of International Cooperation, CNHDRC undertook the research, consultation and drafting work of the "Healthy Asia-Pacific 2020" strategy framework and proposal on the basis of previous study findings of GHSP. During the 2nd APEC-HWG meeting, the strategy was approved officially. Meanwhile, the core content of the strategy was absorbed in the "Beijing Agenda for an Integrated, Innovative and Interconnected Asia-Pacific", which is the 22nd APEC Economic Leaders" Declaration, and has become a strategic framework document for guiding the health development in AsiaPacific region. The Second China-UK Global Health High-Level Dialogue Held in Shanghai |

The Second Sino-British High-Level Dialogue was held in Shanghai on November 12th, 2014. Altogether more than 60 people attended the meeting, including those from Department of Maternal and Child Health from NHFPC, Department of International Cooperation in NHFPC, Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs in Ministry of Commerce and Programme Management Office of GHSP (Center for Project Supervision and Management in NHFPC). Also, representatives from project implementation agencies, experts at home and abroad invited by the programme and representatives from Department for International Development (DFID), Department of Health in UK and British Embassy attended this meeting. During the Dialogue, both sides reviewed their working progress in Global Health since the first dialogue in London in March 2013. A lot of topics were in depth exploration, such as antimicrobial resistance, control and prevention of Malaria, control and prevention of Ebola, maternal and child health, cooperation between international institutions, the Post-2015 Global Health Development Agenda and Global Health Strategy. Research on China"s Global Health Strategy Moved to the Mid Stage |
Conducted by the School of Public Health, Peking University, the research on China"s global health strategy has moved the mid stage at present. This research consists of five sub-studies in health fields, four health-related sub-studies in non-health fields, as well as a comparative study on global health strategies. On November 28th 2014, the research group held a mid-stage review meeting in Beijing. Based on the China-UK Global Health Support Programme, to coordinate the formulation of China"s global health strategy which is being developed by National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), the research group has completed the thematic report on "The History and Present Situation of China"s Health Diplomacy, and offered technical supports to the thematic report on "China"s Health Development Aid" produced by the Health Development Research Center, NHFPC. GHSP Annual Meeting 2014 was held in Shanghai on November 13, 2014. PMO together with such PIAs as Peking University, Fudan University, China CDC, National Health Development and Research Center reported progress, difficulties as well as problems in the programme implementation. Moreover, programme experts at all levels exchanged ideas on such topics including opportunities and challenges of China"s engagement with global health cooperation and governance, capacity building on global health for Chinese institutions, status quo and future of China"s foreign aid, programme"s external evaluation and the logframe of GHSP. GHSP the 5th Strategic Oversight Committee Meeting Held in Beijing |
GHSP the 5th Strategic Oversight Committee Meeting was held in Beijing on December 16, 2014. The meeting reviewed the work plan of "Malaria Prevention and Control in Tanzania Pilot" and "Maternal and Child Health Intervention Pilot" under output 4 of the programme and discussed progress reports on such independent technical activities as "The 5th China-Africa Health Cooperation Seminar", "Health and the Post MDG Research Roundtable", "Development and Aid Training" and "Staff Secondment". The meeting proposed clear guiding ideas and suggestions on those programme activities and required PIAs to carry out accordingly.
