Starting the China-Mongolia “Soft” Cooperation in Public Health from the Echinococcosis Prevention and Control
Abstract
As one of the important public health problems in Mongolia, echinococcosis, a zoonotic parasitic disease, seriously affects public health and husbandry development. The transmission of echinococcosis is often highly associated with husbandry industry, so the echinococcosis prevention and control must be well coordinated by departments of health, agriculture and environment and so on. It’s suggested to adopt integrated strategies in order to effectively control the transmission of echinococcosis. In the current context, Mongolia’s public health system is very weak. If cooperation in echinococcosis prevention and control could be carried out, in combination with Chinese experiences to explore the "soft" cooperation between the two countries, it will be conductive to promoting Mongolia's national health coverage and strengthening the China-Mongolia health cooperation. Moreover, the Central and West Asia are key areas with great importance to the “Belt and Road Initiative”, where a total of around 466 million people are populated and most of them are nomadic, who are at high risk of echinococcosis infection. In collaboration with China, successful implementation of echinococcosis prevention and control in Mongolia could set up a good example for public health cooperation in the region. It is also of great significance to promote the health development and security in the “Belt and Road” area, to accelerate the realization of UN 2030 sustainable development agenda, and to make China's further contribution to global health governance.
